Inisheer Open House & Dance Workshop
Mark Your Calendar: Saturday 17 June 2023
The Inisheer Irish Dancers (whom you probably know from contra dancing) welcome you to two free workshops on an afternoon of Irish dance variations. No partner required. You can catch both workshops and still reach The Dancing Fish to contra dance with time to spare. Many contra dancers find that they love Irish dance and music. Here is your chance to find out why.
Location: 16 NW 7th Ave, Gainesville, FL 32601
Time: 2 pm to 4:30 pm on Saturday, June 17th 2023
Make it a full contra dance weekend with:
- Friday 7-9:30 pm contra dance with the G.O.D.S. at Gainesville Health & Fitness.
- Open House & Irish Dance workshop with Piper Call in Gainesville (see map below)
- 2-3 pm Sean nós (‘Old Style’) Irish step dance: Sean-nós step dance is characterized by its “low to the ground” footwork, improvised steps, free movement of the arms with high value placed on personal style.
- 3-3:30 pm Break for socializing: tea, Irish soda bread and other treats!
- 3:30-4:30 pm Irish Set dancing – The Connemara Set!
- Saturday 5-6 pm open waltz at The Dancing Fish in Melrose
- Saturday 6-9 pm Andy Kane and The Runaway Biscuits
Are you ready to try something new and fun? Ready to get out and move? If you are, then dance with the Inisheer Irish Dancers as we welcome you for two introductory workshops.
Irish sets are danced by four couples in a square, and are derived from French Quadrilles which were brought to Ireland in the nineteenth century. Irish dancers adapted the figures to their own music and steps to form dances with great drive and enjoyment.
- You can participate in one or both of the workshops.
- There is no fee, but donations appreciated.
- Everyone who participates will get a free Inisheer Irish Dancers T-shirt.
Inisheer Irish Dancers, based in Gainesville, Florida and directed by Piper Call since 2003, performs at festivals around North Florida.
We welcome ALL regardless of religious belief, age, race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, financial means, education, and political perspective.
