Before the Waltz, people danced around each other with little or no contact at all. As the dance started gaining popularity, it was criticised on moral grounds due to its close-hold stance and fast turning movements. Religious leaders regarded it as vulgar and sinful.

Saturday dances start at 6:00 pm now.

Remember that while 1st Friday dances still begin at 7 pm, all Saturday evening dances are now 6-9 pm. This enables out-of-town dancers to return home an hour earlier than before.

Saturday evening dancing at The Dancing Fish start as early as 5 pm when the barn opens to the vaccinated public. Arrive early to warm up to ambient waltz music (recorded).

Schedule:

  • 5:00 pm: The Dancing Fish opens (proof of vaccination required)
  • 5:00—6:00 pm Open waltz / Cross-step waltz lead and follow taught to recorded music (subject to band or sound tech’s requirements)
  • 6:00—9:00 pm Contra dancing
